Welcome to Pack 887

Cub Scout Pack 887 is an active year-round family scouting unit chartered by Wheatland Salem Church in Naperville, IL. We are home to over 45 girl and boy scouts in grades K-5 from the 204 school district, primarily Spring Brook and Builta Elementary although we serve any girl or boy interested in advancing along the Cub Scout Trail. Pack 887 is a community of friends and family guiding our scouts to do their best!

New to Scouting

The Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910, provides an effective educational program for boys, girls, and young adults, designed to: build moral strength and character, encourage fitness, and prepare boys for the responsibilities of citizenship.

Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Boy Scouting, said that “Scouting is a game with a purpose.” The game is our exciting program, but the purpose is to prepare Scouts to become better adults with a strong moral compass.

Why Join Cub Scouts

Today’s families, more than ever, struggle to find time to spend together. Cub Scouting helps to support your whole family by providing ready-made opportunities for you and your child to do things together.

As a parent, you want to be assured that the groups your child joins will teach values consistent with good citizenship, character development, and physical fitness.  The BSA has been weaving these lifetime values into fun and educational activities since 1910.

In a society where children are taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting teaches them to “do their best” and to be helpful to others.

Scouting teaches family values and works to strengthen your relationship with your child.  Scouting activities can bring added value to the time you already have with your child. But we know that children do not join Cub Scouts just to get their character built.  They join because it is fun! Scouting is fun with a purpose!

Purposes of Scouting

How Cub Scouting Works

One unique thing about Cub Scouting is that you, as parents, join in on the program with your child. You, along with the den leader, will help him/her along the way.  The family is the basis of Cub Scouting.

Our Cub Scout pack is a large group organized into "dens" by grade level. Each den has a handbook, with suggested activities that are age-appropriate for their development.  As your child advances through these books by working on activities with you or the den, your Scout will earn badges to wear on his/her uniform.

Each den has parents who volunteer as den leaders. Parents are encouraged to join in any and all pack activities. Cub Scouting works best when Scouts and their parents do it together. Den leaders use their training and Den Leader Guide books to plan fun and exciting meetings. Your child’s success in Cub Scouting depends on you!

Once a month, all our dens meet together for the pack meeting where we present awards and participate in fun games and activities.

In addition to den and pack meetings, our pack offers many other opportunities for fun and adventure. There's no shortage of fun on our calendar!
